OFF-ROADING
4x4 Off-Roading has seen an amazing growth in the early part of this century, the 4x4 off-roading concept was started as far back as the 1980s when the far back as the 1980s when the idea of an all-wheel drive vehicle instead of just a strictly farming vehicle was first explored. 4x4 off-roading is very popular as a fashion icon that offers the ultimate inspirational motoring in the 21st century. Of course not everybody likes these vehicles with protesting groups in the city complaining about the gas guzzlers and carbon emissions, failing to take into account that high end performance cars have worse MPG rates than many 4x4s.The grandfather of the 4x4 concept was the the American Willys Jeep which was a real workhorse in World War II. From this vehicle, the Land Rover came into being in 1948.Now of course everywhere you look, there are 4x4s or SUVs (sports utility vehicles) which are the most popular breed of vehicles amongst Americans. The designers and manufacturers in the US have had great success in this huge market. Most of the worlds top car makers are in the 4x4 game now due to the increased popularity of the genre. This is why that most car makers have to offer at least 3-4 models or SUVs to compete in this very lucrative market. The Japanese and Koreans especially have an extensive range on offer. Even the likes of speciality car makers such as Jaguar and Bentley are looking to offer at least one 4x4 off-roading vehicle to the market. With all the hype and controversy in regard to the 4x4 use in urban areas and for the school run, the argument still rages on whether they really need an all-wheel drive vehicle for day-to-day use in the city. What is not taken into account is that most models are more economical and less polluting than seemingly advocated by the environmental groups. The consumer who wants choice in the vehicle might well be attracted to driving a 4x4, which is a versatile machine with a good towing ability, safety, comfort, all round visibility and a go- any where attitude. To be able to drive in off-roading designated areas with like minded drivers is a great way to spend a family weekend and, when asked nicely, kids will be happy to clean the mud off your 4x4 when you have finished sliding on the circuit. Recently, more and more people have been involved in less organised events and taken up fun days, where you pay a small fee to land owner to drive on his/her farmland. Some organisations have complained that safety is not a factor in all fun days. However, driving is driving and the majority of drivers, regardless of their preferred driving environments, take their and other's safety very seriously. In any scenario, enjoy the 4x4 Off-Roading experience. It is great and can be enjoyed by all. Do not just have your vehicle for tarmac hugging and keep it sparkling clean. It is a working vehicle.
